Paraty is located amongst miles of lush rainforest and golden sandy beaches on Brazil's Emerald Coast, the land south of Rio.

The narrow cobbled streets and colonial style houses of this UNESCO World Heritage Site evoke the town's historic past as one of Brazil's major ports in the 18th Century. You can wander through the old streets, visiting the churches and perusing the local shops without being disturbed by cars, which can't enter the historic centre of the town.

The surrounding beaches are an idyllic place to relax and get some sun, and there are plenty of boats waiting at the pier to take you for a cruise around the islands in the bay, stopping for a picnic and swimming off a deserted beach. Paraty is the perfect place to get some peace from the hectic pace of modern life.
