peru nasca
Visit the baffling and infamous prehistoric Nasca Lines, set in an area with some of the greatest biodiversity in Peru.
The Nasca Lines, huge pictures of animals and geometric shapes carved into the ground, hundreds of metres in length, are a complete puzzle to archaeologists and researchers. Many theories exist as to why the ancient Nasca people went to such ingenious and painstaking lengths to create them over 2000 years ago; some even believe that they were a landing strip for alien visitors. These great phenomena are visible from the air, but the land around Nasca also offers a number of attractions.
A few hours' drive away is the coastal area of Punta San Fernando, home to seals and Humboldt penguins, and feeding ground for the majestic Andean condors. The desert landscape also offers the opportunity for sandboarding on nearby dunes, with Cerro Blanco holding the title of the highest sand dune in the world at 2080m.
With incredible and completely unique archaeology, diverse wildlife and extreme sports on offer, Nasca is a one-of-a-kind destination.
