Explore the key locations for your Eurovision trip, including Arena 8888, Sofia Airport, the city centre, major attractions and recommended accommodation areas.
The easiest and most affordable way to reach Sofia city centre from Sofia Airport is by metro. Line M4 connects Terminal 2 directly with Serdika Station in the heart of the city in around 20–25 minutes. A single journey costs less than €1 and tickets can be purchased at ticket machines or by tapping a contactless bank card. A free shuttle bus operates between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 24/7.
If you prefer a taxi, Sofia Airport is served by a single licensed taxi operator – Yellow Taxi. Official taxis can be requested at the company’s desk located in the arrivals area of both terminals. Vehicles wait in designated taxi ranks directly outside the arrivals exits. We recommend using only taxis obtained through the airport desk or reputable taxi apps rather than accepting rides from individuals approaching passengers inside the terminal.
Even if Sofia is not ultimately selected as the Eurovision host city, many international visitors are likely to arrive through Sofia Airport, Bulgaria’s largest airport. As a result, much of the transport information in this guide will remain useful regardless of the final host city announcement. For the latest airport transport information, visit the official Sofia Airport Transportation Guide.
The official Eurovision 2027 venue has not yet been announced. If Sofia is selected as the host city, Arena 8888 Sofia is widely considered the most likely venue due to its size, accessibility and experience hosting large international events.
Once the venue is officially confirmed, we will publish detailed information on how to get there by public transport, taxi and on foot, together with estimated travel times from different parts of the city.
Regardless of the final venue, we recommend allowing extra travel time before rehearsals and live shows, as traffic around major event venues can be significantly heavier than usual. Public transport is often the fastest and most reliable way to reach large events in Bulgaria.
For the latest information, keep an eye on our Venue Guide and Eurovision 2027 updates.
Several taxi apps operate in Sofia, but the most widely used and reliable options are Yellow Taxi and TaxiMe. Both allow you to order a taxi through your smartphone, see an estimated fare and pay by card if desired.
If you are arriving at Sofia Airport, you can also use the airport’s official licensed taxi service, which can be requested at the taxi desk in the arrivals area. Official taxis wait at designated taxi ranks outside the terminals.
As in any large city, we recommend avoiding unsolicited offers from individuals approaching passengers at the airport, railway station or around major events. Ordering a taxi through an app or using the official airport taxi service is usually the safest and most convenient option.
During Eurovision week, demand for taxis is expected to be particularly high before and after live shows, so consider allowing extra time or using public transport where available.
Yes. Card payments are widely accepted throughout Sofia and Bulgaria, including in most hotels, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, museums and shops. Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly accepted cards, while contactless payments with smartphones and smartwatches are also widely used.
Bulgaria is part of the eurozone and uses the euro (€) as its official currency. Most visitors will find it easy to get around without carrying much cash, as electronic payments are accepted almost everywhere.
We still recommend keeping a small amount of cash on hand for occasional purchases at markets, small kiosks or other businesses that may not accept cards.
For public transport in Sofia, you can simply tap your contactless bank card or mobile device when boarding buses, trams and the metro, making it easy to get around without purchasing paper tickets.
We recommend allowing significantly more time than you think you need, especially on rehearsal days and live show nights.
Major Eurovision events attract thousands of visitors within a relatively short period of time, which can result in heavy traffic around the venue and increased demand for taxis and public transport. Even if your navigation app suggests a short journey, delays are possible.
As a general rule, aim to arrive at the venue area at least 60–90 minutes before the start of the event. This will give you enough time for security checks, finding your entrance and locating your seat without unnecessary stress.
Once the official venue has been confirmed, we will publish detailed travel times and recommended routes from different parts of the city.
