Bulgaria hosts 2016 ICAR Congress
45 years after becoming a member of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR), the Bulgarian Mountain Rescue Service at the Bulgarian Red Cross was delighted to undertake the challenging task to organize and host the 68th edition of ICAR Congress in 2016.
The convention brought together nearly 300 representatives of rescue services from all around the world. The event took place between October 19 and 22, in the oldest Bulgarian winter resort “Borovets”.
Excedo Travel was invited to support the organization of the 4-day ICAR Congress Companion Program.
Although weather conditions thwarted reaching the highest summit on the Balkans, Mt. Musala, during the first day of the program, participants still had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery of the next three days. We had the pleasure to show them around some of the most iconic and memorable places in Bulgaria – the Seven Rila Lakes , the Rila Monastery – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the 2019 European Capital of Culture – the city Plovdiv.
Of course, the program would not have been complete without an obligatory culinary crash course, including homemade rakia and traditional local varieties of Bulgarian wine.
