INTRODUCTION

Finding the right place to stay for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas is not simply a question of choosing a hotel close to the city centre. Depending on what matters most to you, you may prefer to be within walking distance of restaurants and the seafront. Alternatively, you might want to stay closer to Arena Burgas, near the airport, or even outside Burgas altogether.

Burgas is a relatively compact and easy-going city. However, the Eurovision venue, city centre, beaches and main accommodation areas are spread across different parts of the city. Where you stay can therefore make a noticeable difference to how you get around during Eurovision week, particularly on show nights.

In this guide, we look at the main areas to stay in Burgas as well as selected alternatives along the nearby Black Sea coast. We compare their location, atmosphere, access to Arena Burgas and transport options. We also look at the types of accommodation you are likely to find, helping you choose the area that best suits your plans for Eurovision 2027.

Some Eurovision-specific information is likely to change as the event approaches. This includes accommodation availability, prices and special transport arrangements. We will keep this information in clearly marked update sections and revise it as new details become available.

Best Areas to Stay in Burgas for Eurovision

Burgas City Centre

BEST ALL-ROUND CHOICE

For most first-time visitors, Burgas City Centre is likely to be the most convenient place to stay during Eurovision 2027. The centre is compact and very walkable, with restaurants, cafés, shops and many of the city’s main sights close at hand. The southern part of the Sea Garden and Central Beach are also within easy walking distance.

For the purposes of this guide, we use “Burgas City Centre” in a fairly broad sense. It covers the central area between San Stefano Boulevard, Hristo Botev Street, the railway and bus stations, the port and the southern Sea Garden. When comparing accommodation, however, always check the exact location rather than relying only on a “Burgas Centre” label on a booking platform.

Staying centrally is particularly convenient if you are arriving in Burgas by train or bus. Both stations are located at the southern edge of the city centre. You can also enjoy much of Burgas without relying on public transport or taxis for everyday sightseeing, restaurants and evening activities.

Arena Burgas is not in the city centre, so you should expect to use public transport or a taxi on show days. Dedicated Eurovision transport arrangements are being planned. We will update our transport recommendations once the details are announced.

Best for: First-time visitors, sightseeing, restaurants and cafés, visitors without a car, and anyone who wants to experience Burgas beyond the Eurovision shows.

Things to consider: Accommodation prices are likely to be higher here than in Burgas’s more residential neighbourhoods. To some extent, the same may apply to eating and drinking. Accommodation directly on or around the busiest pedestrian streets, restaurants and bars may also be noisier, particularly during Eurovision week. If being as close as possible to Arena Burgas is your main priority, consider Izgrev or Pencho Slaveykov instead.

Sea Garden (Northern Half) & Lazur

BEST BALANCE

For visitors looking for a quieter base, the northern Sea Garden and neighbouring Lazur are among the best options for Eurovision 2027. You remain within relatively easy reach of both central Burgas and Arena Burgas. At the same time, the area offers a residential atmosphere with immediate access to the Sea Garden, Black Sea coast and North Beach.

For the purposes of this guide, we include the southern part of the Sea Garden in our Burgas City Centre area. This section covers the northern half of the park and the entire adjacent Lazur neighbourhood. Lazur is a safe, well-established residential district with its own restaurants, supermarkets, shops and everyday services. It is also generally quieter than the city centre.

One of the area’s biggest advantages is walkability in both directions. Central Burgas can comfortably be reached on foot from much of Lazur, while Arena Burgas is also within walking distance. The route towards the Arena is relatively straightforward along Demokratsia Boulevard. The exact walking time, however, depends considerably on where you are staying. As a general guide, allow around 20–40 minutes on foot to Arena Burgas.

Having the Sea Garden on your doorstep is another major advantage, particularly if you are spending the entire Eurovision week in Burgas. It provides plenty of space for walking, running or simply getting away from the busiest parts of the city. The seafront and beach are also immediately accessible.

Accommodation in this area includes hotels as well as a particularly good selection of apartments and smaller properties. This can make Lazur especially attractive for longer stays, couples and groups looking for more space or self-catering facilities.

Best for: Visitors staying for several days or the full Eurovision week, people who enjoy walking, couples and small groups. It is also a good choice for anyone looking for a quieter, greener base with relatively easy access to central Burgas and Arena Burgas.

Things to consider: Lazur does not have the same concentration of restaurants, bars and evening activity as the city centre. However, there are plenty of local amenities and central Burgas is nearby. The neighbourhood also covers a fairly large area, so check the exact location of your accommodation. Walking times to the city centre, Sea Garden and Arena Burgas can vary noticeably depending on where you stay.

Izgrev, Pencho Slaveykov & Arena Burgas

BEST FOR ARENA ACCESS & WORK-RELATED STAYS

If you expect to spend a significant amount of time at Arena Burgas, Izgrev and neighbouring Pencho Slaveykov are among the most practical areas to consider. This is particularly relevant for media, content creators, delegations, production and event personnel. It also applies to other work-related visitors who may need to travel to the Arena every day rather than only for the live shows.

Both Izgrev and Pencho Slaveykov are predominantly residential districts rather than traditional tourist areas. They are well established, however, with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, shopping centres and other everyday services close at hand. Staying near the Arena therefore does not mean being isolated from the practical amenities you may need during a longer stay.

Accommodation in these neighbourhoods tends to consist more of private apartments and smaller aparthotel-style properties than conventional hotels. This can be an advantage for longer stays or work-related visits. You may particularly value the additional living space, self-catering facilities or parking. Both districts cover a substantial area, however, so always check the exact location if proximity to Arena Burgas is important to you.

The main trade-off is the distance from the parts of Burgas where most leisure visitors are likely to spend their time. Central Burgas, the main pedestrian areas and the Sea Garden are far enough away that public transport or taxis usually make more sense than walking. This is therefore an area to choose primarily because being close to the Arena matters to you.

Best for: Media and content creators, delegations, event and production personnel, and other work-related visitors. It is also a practical choice for longer stays requiring frequent Arena access and for fans who prioritise staying close to the Eurovision venue.

Things to consider: Izgrev and Pencho Slaveykov offer less of the seaside and city-centre atmosphere that many visitors associate with Burgas. You will normally rely on public transport or taxis to reach central Burgas and the Sea Garden. The convenience of Arena access can also vary considerably depending on your exact location within these large residential districts. If you are attending only one or two shows, the City Centre or Lazur may offer a better overall base. This is particularly true if you plan to spend much of the rest of your time exploring Burgas.

Sarafovo

BEST FOR A SEASIDE STAY

If you prefer a seaside atmosphere and don’t mind travelling into the main part of Burgas, Sarafovo can be an excellent alternative. Although officially a district of Burgas, it is physically separated from the main urban area. It also has its own distinct character as the city’s seaside tourism district.

Sarafovo offers a substantial range of visitor accommodation. You will find apartments, family hotels, guesthouses and smaller seaside properties in particular. Unlike some seasonal resorts along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, the area remains active outside the main summer season. This makes it a practical accommodation option for Eurovision in May.

The location is particularly convenient if you are flying directly into Burgas Airport, which lies immediately beside the district. Sarafovo also has its own beach, restaurants, cafés, shops and everyday services. You therefore do not need to travel into central Burgas for every meal or basic necessity.

For active visitors, another advantage is the dedicated pedestrian and cycle route connecting Sarafovo with Burgas along the coast. The illuminated route passes between the Black Sea and Atanasovsko Lake before continuing towards the Sea Garden. It offers an attractive alternative for walking or cycling between Sarafovo and the main city area.

The main trade-off is transport. Sarafovo is too far from central Burgas and Arena Burgas to treat either as an everyday walking destination. Public transport is available, while taxis are likely to be more convenient for travelling to and from Arena Burgas. This will be particularly relevant on show nights. We will update our recommendations once the dedicated Eurovision transport arrangements are announced.

Best for: Visitors who prefer a seaside setting, travellers flying directly into Burgas Airport, active visitors interested in walking or cycling, and longer stays. It is also a good option for anyone looking for an alternative to accommodation in the main urban area.

Things to consider: Staying in Sarafovo means being removed from the main concentration of Eurovision activity, restaurants and nightlife in central Burgas. You should expect to use public transport or taxis regularly, particularly for journeys to the Arena and city centre. If you want to walk between your accommodation, central Burgas and the Eurovision venue, the City Centre or Lazur will be more convenient.

Staying Outside Burgas for Eurovision

Pomorie

BEST NEARBY ALTERNATIVE TO BURGAS

If you would rather stay outside Burgas without moving too far from the Eurovision host city, Pomorie is one of the most practical alternatives. Located on the Black Sea coast northeast of Burgas, it combines a genuine seaside setting with relatively straightforward connections to the city.

If choosing Pomorie, we recommend looking primarily at accommodation in the Old Town or along the narrow coastal area between Pomorie Lake and the Black Sea. If suitable properties are operating in May, these areas make the most of what Pomorie has to offer. The waterfront, beaches and more attractive parts of the town are all close at hand. If you are already accepting a longer journey to Eurovision events, it makes sense to choose a location that offers something different in return.

Pomorie is a living town rather than a purely seasonal Black Sea resort. It has residents, shops, restaurants, cafés and everyday services throughout the year. It is, however, considerably smaller than Burgas. In May, you should expect fewer restaurants, bars and evening entertainment options than during the main summer season. Eurovision may encourage some seasonal businesses to open earlier than usual in 2027, but this should not be assumed when choosing where to stay.

Regular buses connect Pomorie with Burgas and make daytime travel between the two towns relatively straightforward. Current scheduled services, however, finish too early to be useful for returning after most Eurovision shows. For late-night journeys, taxis are a practical option, provided you use a recognised taxi company. Private transfers or special Eurovision transport arrangements may also become available. We will update this guide as soon as more information is announced.

Pomorie is particularly attractive if you are spending several days or the entire Eurovision week on the Bulgarian coast. It works best for visitors who do not need to be at Arena Burgas throughout the day. You can combine Eurovision with a quieter seaside stay while keeping Burgas within reasonable reach.

Best for: Longer stays, couples and visitors who prefer a smaller seaside town to a city environment. It is also a good choice if you want to combine Eurovision with time by the Black Sea. Pomorie may become particularly attractive if suitable accommodation in Burgas is limited or especially expensive.

Things to consider: Staying in Pomorie means accepting a regular commute to Burgas. You should not currently rely on scheduled public transport for returning after late Eurovision events. Dining, bars and nightlife are also more limited in May than in Burgas or during Pomorie’s main summer season. Check the exact location of your accommodation and whether the property is operating normally in May before booking.

Sozopol

BEST FOR CULTURE & A SEASIDE BREAK

If you are prepared to travel a little farther from Burgas, Sozopol offers the opportunity to combine Eurovision with a stay in one of Bulgaria’s most historic and attractive Black Sea towns. Around 35 km south of Burgas, it is less convenient for frequent trips to Arena Burgas than Pomorie, but offers considerably more as a destination in its own right.

For Eurovision visitors choosing Sozopol, we recommend staying within Sozopol proper rather than in the outlying holiday complexes and resort areas. The town combines its historic Old Town, traditional architecture and archaeological heritage with beaches, waterfront walks, restaurants, cafés and other visitor amenities. Staying within the town allows you to enjoy these attractions without needing additional transport every time you leave your accommodation.

Although Sozopol is considerably busier during the main summer season, it is not exclusively a seasonal beach destination. Its cultural and historic significance attracts visitors throughout the year, and museums, cultural institutions and tourism infrastructure within the town continue to operate outside the summer months. May also regularly brings cultural events, exhibitions and performances to the town. It is certainly quieter than in summer, with fewer dining and entertainment options, but Sozopol remains a living small town rather than a resort that closes down outside the main season.

Regular buses connect Sozopol and Burgas and can be useful for daytime journeys, but scheduled services should not be relied upon for returning after late Eurovision events. Taxis and private transfers are practical alternatives. If you expect to travel between Sozopol and Burgas frequently over several days, renting a car may prove more economical, although parking arrangements in Burgas during Eurovision week will also need to be considered. We will update this guide once special Eurovision transport and parking arrangements are announced.

Choosing Sozopol therefore makes most sense if the place where you stay is part of the holiday rather than simply somewhere to sleep between Eurovision events. The additional travel time is compensated by the opportunity to experience a historic Black Sea town and spend the quieter parts of Eurovision week away from the main activity in Burgas.

Best for: Longer stays, couples, culture and history enthusiasts, visitors who want to combine Eurovision with a Black Sea holiday, travellers who prefer a small-town atmosphere, and those who do not need to travel to Arena Burgas several times each day.

Things to consider: Sozopol is significantly farther from Burgas than Pomorie, so regular journeys to Eurovision events require more time and potentially greater transport costs. Public transport is useful during the day but should not currently be considered a reliable solution for late-night returns. The town is also quieter in May than during the summer season. If convenience and frequent Arena access are your priorities, staying in Burgas—or closer to it—will be a better choice.

Old Nessebar

BEST FOR HISTORY & HERITAGE

If sightseeing is as important to you as Eurovision itself, Old Nessebar offers perhaps the most distinctive accommodation alternative outside Burgas. The Ancient City of Nessebar has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, and staying on the historic peninsula gives you the unusual opportunity to make one of Bulgaria’s most important cultural destinations your home during Eurovision week.

For this guide, our recommendation applies specifically to Old Nessebar, rather than New Nessebar or the large resort areas farther along the coast. If you are already accepting a longer journey to Eurovision events in Burgas, we think it makes sense to stay somewhere that offers an exceptional experience in its own right.

Old Nessebar certainly does. Its history stretches back more than 3,000 years, with Thracian, Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval Bulgarian and later cultural layers all represented on the small Black Sea peninsula. Archaeological remains, sections of ancient fortifications, medieval churches and traditional 19th-century Black Sea houses are concentrated within an extraordinarily compact area. UNESCO recognises the Ancient City of Nessebar for this exceptional combination of archaeological heritage, medieval religious architecture, traditional urban fabric and its distinctive coastal setting. 

One of the greatest advantages of actually staying in the Old Town is having this abundance of historic sights immediately outside your accommodation. Rather than visiting Nessebar for a few hours as a day trip, you can explore its narrow streets, churches, archaeological remains and waterfront at your own pace, including in the morning and evening when there are fewer day visitors.

May may actually be one of the best times to experience Old Nessebar if you are not looking for a summer beach holiday. The historic streets are considerably quieter than during peak season, allowing the architecture, churches and archaeological remains to define the atmosphere rather than summer crowds and the dense concentration of seasonal souvenir stalls. Museums and cultural sites operate outside the main summer season, and cultural events also take place in May.

There should be a reasonable selection of restaurants and cafés operating in the Old Town at this time of year, although naturally fewer than during summer. For supermarkets, groceries and other everyday services, New Nessebar is close by and easily accessible. Accommodation within the historic town itself consists predominantly of private apartments, guesthouses and smaller properties rather than large conventional hotels.

Regular buses connect Nessebar with Burgas and are useful for daytime journeys, including services stopping at Old Nessebar itself. The journey is considerably longer than from Pomorie, however, so you should allow around an hour or more and additional time when traffic is heavy. Scheduled public transport should not currently be relied upon for returning after late Eurovision shows. Taxis and pre-arranged private transfers are therefore likely to be the easiest options on show nights.

Renting a car is also possible and could still make financial sense for visitors making frequent journeys between Nessebar and Burgas, but there is an important complication: vehicle access to Old Nessebar is restricted. The historic peninsula has controlled access, and visitors staying there should not assume that they can drive to their accommodation and leave the car outside. Under the current system, accommodation providers can arrange temporary vehicle access for arriving guests, after which the car must be moved to one of the designated parking areas serving the Old Town. If you are considering a rental car, we strongly recommend checking the exact access and parking arrangements with your accommodation before booking.

For that reason, a rental car should be regarded as an option rather than automatically the best solution for a stay in Old Nessebar. The convenience and cost of taxis or private transfers versus car rental and parking will depend on how often you plan to travel to Burgas. We will revisit this recommendation once Eurovision-specific transport, traffic and parking arrangements are announced.

Choosing Old Nessebar therefore makes most sense if you want Eurovision to form part of a wider cultural trip to Bulgaria. You are accepting a longer commute in exchange for something genuinely special: the opportunity to wake up inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site and have one of the richest concentrations of historical sights on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast immediately outside your door.

Best for: History and culture enthusiasts, couples, longer stays, visitors who enjoy sightseeing, travellers who want Eurovision to form part of a wider Bulgarian holiday, and anyone attracted by the opportunity to stay within a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Things to consider: Old Nessebar is the furthest of the accommodation areas recommended in this guide, so travelling to and from Burgas requires more time and planning. Public transport is useful during the day but should not currently be considered a solution for late-night Eurovision returns. Vehicle access to the Old Town is restricted, so a rental car also requires more planning than it would in most of the other areas covered in this guide. Accommodation inside the historic town is more limited and consists largely of smaller properties and private apartments. If easy or frequent access to Arena Burgas is your main priority, staying in Burgas—or closer to it—will be considerably more practical.

Should You Stay in Burgas or Outside the City?

For most visitors coming primarily for Eurovision, staying in Burgas will be the most convenient choice. You will be closer to Arena Burgas, Eurovision activities, restaurants and nightlife, and will spend less time travelling during what is likely to be a busy week. 

Staying outside Burgas makes more sense if where you stay is part of the holiday itself. Pomorie offers the shortest commute of our recommended alternatives, while Sozopol and Old Nessebar reward the additional travel with historic surroundings, sightseeing and a very different Black Sea experience.

Our advice: If Eurovision is the main purpose of your trip, stay in Burgas. If you are staying longer and want to combine Eurovision with a seaside or cultural break, consider Pomorie, Sozopol or Old Nessebar.

Hotel or Apartment?

Both can work well for Eurovision, and the better choice depends mainly on the length of your stay and how much space and independence you want.

Hotels offer the convenience of reception, housekeeping and other services, making them a straightforward choice for shorter stays. Apartments can offer more space, kitchen facilities and greater flexibility, which may be particularly useful for a full Eurovision week, groups or longer stays. 

Whichever you choose, location matters more than accommodation type. Check the exact address and transport options rather than relying only on the neighbourhood or destination shown on a booking platform.

How to Book Eurovision Accommodation Safely

Eurovision creates unusually high demand for accommodation, so book through a reputable platform, established hotel or verified accommodation provider. Be particularly cautious about offers made through social media or private messages, especially if you are asked to pay by an unusual method or outside the platform where you found the property.

Before paying, check the exact address, cancellation conditions and total price, including any deposits or additional charges. For apartments, also check recent reviews and make sure you have clear contact and check-in information from the host.

Finally, don’t book based on distance alone. Check how you will actually travel between the property, Arena Burgas and central Burgas, particularly late at night. A cheaper room can quickly become less attractive if it requires expensive transfers every day.

How Far from Burgas Is Too Far?

For Eurovision, travel time matters more than distance on a map. A location that looks reasonably close can become inconvenient if you need to make the journey to Burgas repeatedly or depend on taxis after late shows.

Our recommended alternatives outside Burgas stop at Pomorie, Sozopol and Old Nessebar because each offers something worthwhile in return for the commute. Beyond these areas, we would generally recommend choosing accommodation in or closer to Burgas instead.

If considering somewhere farther away, ask yourself whether you would be comfortable making that journey late at night and several times during your stay. If the answer is no, the accommodation is probably too far away.
